City of Killeen recovering following cyber security breach

“ The city of Killeen says they’re recovering following a cyber security breach that occurred August 7, 2024.“

“The cyber security breach was due to a cyber intrusion from a cybercriminal known as BlackSuit Ransomware and the city has been in contact with the Texas Department of Information Resources, Killeen says. “

“Once the breach was discovered, Killeen says their IT department took steps to secure their systems and prevent further access. Out of precaution, Killeen ceased connections with the Bell County Network to prevent further impact to other systems“

“At this time, Killeen says they have no reason to believe citizens personal or financial information has been compromised. As a cautionary measure, the city recommends residents monitor their financial accounts and report any suspicious activity to their bank. “
