East Peoria’s CodeRED system breached by cybercriminals

“The city of East Peoria’s emergency alert system, dubbed CodeRED, was breached by an organized cybercriminal group victimizing the platform and its customers, the city said in a news release.“

“East Peoria has used CodeRED has been used for years for its alerts to citizens for the police, fire and public works departments. It’s been used for boil advisories, parking bans, road conditions and closures, law enforcement and weather emergencies, the city said. “

“It’s also been used for community messaging regarding events and information from City Hall, Departments, EastSide Centre, special events, and the Fon du Lac Park District.“
