Savannah-Chatham schools provides more insight on PowerSchool hack

“Hackers may have accessed Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) staff members', students' and their parents' data going as far back as 2008, which was when the school district first contracted with education tech software provider PowerSchool.“

“On Jan. 9, the software company's Director of Communications Melissa Wenzel shared an official statement that noted PowerSchool became aware of a "cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain PowerSchool SIS [student information system] information through one of our community-focused customer portals, PowerSource" on Dec. 28, 2024.“

“Savannah-Chatham school district Executive Director of Information and Cyber Security Carl Eller confirmed that its PowerSchool records were breached on Dec. 22, 2024. “
