Computer network disrupted at Tehama County Social Services

“• “An investigation is underway to determine what disrupted the Tehama County Department of Social Services computer network on April 9.” • “It appeared the scope of the incident is limited to social services and is not impacting other county departments, according to a press release issued Thursday by the county. The social services IT network is separate from the other county departments’ IT environments.” • “When the county learned of the incident, the department’s IT systems were taken offline out of caution. An investigation was then launched with the help of a third-party forensic firm and state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies were notified as well.” • “If the county determines the incident resulted in unauthorized access to any sensitive information, it will provide notifications to the individuals in accordance with applicable law, the release said.” “

Quantum describes the files as involving information of county clients and employees” • “The attack occurred on April 9, and as media reported on April 15, the county quickly took its system offline to investigate.” • “DataBreaches also sent an inquiry yesterday to TCDSS with a number of questions as to whether they notified the California Attorney General’s Office, whether they notified HSS, and whether individuals whose data had been accessed or acquired have been notified by mail. TCDSS was also asked how many people, total, had personal or protected health information accessed or acquired. No reply has been received.” “
