It shouldn’t come as a surprise that government agencies of all levels, especially the federal level, have been more targeted by cyber criminals over the last year.
US federal agencies recently reported that cyber incidents at the government level rose 9.9% in 2023 compared to 2022.
The most alarming statement from the report was that “agencies have the capability to detect when security policies are being violated, but not the ability to prevent it from actually happening.”
Not surprisingly, the most common incident was caused by phishing and malicious emails, increasing in incidents from 3,011 in 2022 to 6,198 in 2023.
Phishing incidents continue to rise against all sectors, especially government agencies, with cyber criminals able to use AI and take advantage of other advanced tools.
Our cyber experts discussed the impact of AI in phishing and different types of methodologies cyber criminals use.
